Professional Biography
For over 10 years Alanna was responsible for ensuring that all programs and services within Teen Challenge Queensland, including accredited training courses, were developed and delivered in a manner that was consistent with applicable standards of best practice. She has worked with countless young people and their families around various issues related to substance abuse, mental health and homelessness. As the manager of Teen Challenge Training (a registered training organisation) from 2010 to 2015, Alanna equipped literally hundreds of youth and community workers to make a difference in the lives of their clients.
Prior to starting with Teen Challenge Alanna worked for the then Queensland Department of Families. Alanna is currently the Programs Coordinator for the Smith Family in the Logan and Inala areas.
As a social worker Alanna favours a strength-based approach and has facilitated sessions with individuals and groups using a variety of treatment approaches including cognitive, behavioural, motivational, solution focused and psycho-education. As a certified practitioner of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator®, since 2004 Alanna has assisted hundreds of individuals and groups to use the MBTI® to improve their relationships in the home and workplace.
Alanna is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and has supervised 20 social work students. She is also the co-founder of 'Christians in Social Work, Australia' and of 'Total Care Services for Churches'.
